Losing faith in the EdD degree.

I am a pre-service teacher, but have been working in my university’s school age care program for 4-5 years now. Through this program, I have had the opportunity to work with several student teachers.

This semester I’m working with a student teacher who is earning her EdD degree. I’ve seen her make some pretty basic mistakes and lack a lot of knowledge when it comes to pedagogy, secondary education, working with kids, and classroom management. She is from a different subject area in K-12, but I still don’t think it should be ?this? hard.

I know this is a pretty drastic conclusion to come to after working with just one student teacher, but I’ve just felt very underwhelmed. She seems very nice and is trying her hardest, but I just have a hard time believing she’ll be qualified to be a teacher in a few semesters. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?
