Thinking about leaving my 6-figure job to join my partner as a travel nurse. I’m scared(not a nurse, but have 2 bachelors degrees as well as an MBA, but currently I’m a stay-at-home dad for a 4 month old). Advice as I feel trapped and want to make a change.

I’m a father of a newborn. I went from making 6 figures, to staying at home for a few months. My wife got a new job(not a nurse, but in healthcare(not a doctor as well) and is a traveler for her work as well. She is doing it as travel nurses are in high demand. <br><br>I’ve been thinking over the last few months, I want to make a change. I feel like my life is over, I’m set on the career path that I’m currently in, and that I won’t be able to make a change as I have lock in my career for 10+ years and I’m afraid that companies will not want a 40-something year old that hasn’t worked for 10+ years, and have little work experience. I’m feeling trapped in my career as I don’t really have a choice to leave, as I feel like I’ve invested too much into a certain career path.<br><br>She is having a great time and says, after Covid ends, she will be able to go to different states as a travel nurse. It seems like an exciting career(not that I’m a nurse, but just to pick up and go after only 13 weeks, seems so much different than how our lives were before). I was thinking of joining as well. I was thinking of picking up a second degree in a field in high demand and then maybe just traveling with her. If she goes to a state, I could also get a job as well. I feel like I can get a second degree in 2-3 years, and be a travel x for 5-7 years traveling(not a nurse as I mentioned, but just in a different in-demand career field). I feel like she will be able to travel for 5-10 years. I’ve been looking at my budget, and with both of us working, we could save a ton of money for 5-10 years, and I would be able to retire earlier. <br><br>I’m scared, as I don’t know as I feel trapped and that I’m going to miss my opportunity. It’s scary as I will have to give up my 6-figure career and take a large pay-cut to make a change. Advice as I’m not sure what to do as I don’t want to give up my career, but I do want to make a change in my life.
