Why do we care about anything?

I would love a bit of a discussion on this topic. I have always thought that love or being happy can never be the ultimate goal because the happiness or love would have to be love or happiness over something. If you love your kids it's because they are your kids, love your friends it's because they are your friends love everyone it's because they are everyone. If you're happy about your home it's because you have a home. If you're happy about your health it's because you have your health. If you're happy about your life it's because you have your life. Once that thing is gone you can't love it anymore, why would you. This is why I honestly still can't believe in the idea of heaven. If heaven is a place where you don't have to worry about losing anyone, yourself or your loved ones, why would you want to love them in the first place to begin with. If heaven is a place where you have anything you want why would you want anything at all. No matter what, in order to care about something it has to be in contrast with something to be considered good. Why would you want to feel good in the first place when the premise of feeling good already requires something to feel good about.

My thoughts on the issue are that love or happiness can never be considered a goal. If everyone is happy does that matter, why is that considered good? Why is it considered better than everyone being sad. Why would you care at all? If that's the case someone being sad wouldn't be a problem since you wouldn't have a reason to care about the happiness or sadness of anyone. They would be the same. A lot of the time when we say that someone is bad we just mean someone who has a different opinion than us. But why do we even have opinions? Why do we care? People will die or suffer or be raped and will live through it, why is it that we care about this at all? Why would anyone care about anything? Just because we can doesn't mean we should, but just because we should doesn't mean we can. The fact that we can is already a reason for us to care about something. But why should we care about anything. Some may say God. But God hasn't really talked to people for a really long time. If that was the case you would think that if God cares so much about us he would have the decency to at least talk to us. I realise religion is an important part in many people's lives and I'm not trying to offend anyone, however to me religion seems like the answer to questions we humans don't have answers to. I don't see the point in lying to yourself or anyone else. Religion may have been true a long time ago. But it cannot be the case today. We have a lot of evidence that contradicts religion in every religion. We also can't seem to figure out whether or not God exists or not. In that case, why do we care about anything at all?

The only reason left that I could think of why we care about anything is because we can. We have feelings. We can feel love happiness or sadness. We love because we can love. We can be happy because we can be happy. We would be sad because we can be sad. We are upset because we can be upset. We are upset about something because we can be upset. If that's the case then what should we be upset about? What should we love? What should we be happy about? Why do we care about anything at all? We know we shouldn't. But why would we want to? If everyone in the world was happy but no one could feel happiness, would that be a problem? If everyone in the world was sad but no one could feel sadness, would that be a problem? If everyone in the world was loved, but no one could feel love, would that be a problem? If everyone in the world was unloved but no one could feel love, would that be a problem? If everyone in the world was dead, but no one could feel their own death, would that be a problem? If everyone in the world was alive, but no one could feel their own life, would that be a problem? If a criminal does something wrong and no one can feel any misery, is it a problem? If a hero does something right and no one can feel any happiness, is it a problem? There is no such thing as universal right or wrong. Right or wrong is in the eyes of the beholder. What is wrong for one person may be right for another. What is right for someone may be wrong for another. There's just no point in trying to figure out what's right or wrong, because there is no universal answer to that. One person's right may be another person's wrong, and vice versa. It's pointless to argue over right and wrong because there is no way to figure it out and things can only go right and wrong for a person. Why do we care about anything? Why do we want to? Why can we? What should we care about? What should we not care about?
