I just need to emphasize that I’m not a monster or an AH. This just happened at my restaurant and I’m just wondering what people think. I’m a 43 year old man and I have a small restaurant that I inherited from my father. It is a small successful restaurant in a small town, everyone knows everyone. I love it. I’m married to a lovely woman and have two teen daughters and a small baby boy.

So what happened was yesterday one of my employees, let’s call her Pam, came to work with her sister. Her sister is about 30 years old I guess and I didn’t know her that well, but I didn’t like her. She just seemed very rude and snarky whenever I talked to her.

Anyway, Pam’s sister was in the lobby waiting for Pam to finish work to take her to lunch. She was sitting at a table where we keep extra menus and napkin and stuff. It’s a large table, we only use it for storage.

So about midday when all our tables were occupied we get a call from an ambulance saying they are bringing in a woman who is having a miscarriage. She was in a shop down the street and she started bleeding and they took her to the hospital. The thing is the ambulance had to drive slowly because of the road conditions and she was in a lot of pain and they were asking if she could lie down anywhere.

So we decide to make room for her and I go talk to Pam’s sister, Pam and her husband are both working we don’t want to pull them out at a time like this. And I ask her nicely if she could please go to the bar so we can use the table. She says no. I ask her again to just sit in the bar for a few minutes and she refused again. I was shocked. I asked her the third time and she said fuck off to me. So, I said fine and called the ambulance to tell them that our place is occupied and they need to find somewhere else.

I didn’t really think about it much but after about 20 minutes the ambulance still hadn’t arrived. So, I called to check and they told me that the woman was in a lot of pain and the hospital didn’t have a room ready for her yet. They told me that the situation was very bad now.

About 10 minutes later they still hadn’t arrived and I get a call from the husband of the woman telling me that his wife is in a lot of pain and if we can still let her lie down for a bit until they are ready for her. I told him we are still occupied.

The ambulance finally shows up and they carry her in. They see Pam’s sister sitting at the table and they ask her if they can use it and she tells them no again. I was just lost for words. I finally lost it and told her to get the fuck out and go to the bar. She complained that she lost her seat because of the woman and I told her that she could have gone to the bar if she wanted to. I didn’t throw her out and she could still eat. She just left the restaurant and left her sister.

Anyway, so the situation with the woman ended up being a miscarriage, but they were able to save her. I got a call from the hospital saying that if she had waited any longer she would have bled out and died.

So, now I live in a small town and everyone knows everyone. So word got around that Pam’s sister wouldn’t let the woman use a table when she was bleeding and having a miscarriage.

Now a lot of people are saying I should have just thrown Pam and her husband out and kicked out her sister. A few people are saying I should have just let the woman use the table without asking her because it was an emergency. I just don’t know, I feel like I did the right thing but I’m just not sure.
