The main 3 reasons people recommend working at a top consulting firm are:

1) Earn more money - The pay is high and if you work 60-80 hour weeks for 2-3 years you can exit into a high paying job.
2) Build a network - The people you met at the top 3 consulting firm will be in leadership positions. Some people seem to believe that if you don't work at a top 3 consulting firm, you don't know any of these people and you'll be stuck in an entry level job forever.
3) Improve your skills - A top consulting firm will teach you business skills but the low level work you do will not teach you any useful skills.

How do you improve your skills if working at a top consulting firm teaches you no useful skills? How do you network if you're busy most of the time?
