ELI5: People asking me what I did over break

My 5th year at the University of Illinois was a shit show. I lived in a dorm, we had distance learning, and no in-person classes. We didn't have a dining hall. Our building shut down two weeks after class started and had to be fully quarantined for a month. People were only allowed to go outside for groceries. But I really didn't have those problems because I lived with a group of eight girls and we all had each other. Also, my old high school boyfriend only lived a few minutes away, so I had him, too. But I know a lot of people don't have that. And I know that with the holidays and stuff, people haven't seen a lot of loved ones. So, why are people asking me what I did over break? I spent 60-70 days in my dorm room last year with no one but my eight roommates. So, I'm doing the same thing over Christmas that I did over Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick's Day, the 4th of July, my birthday, my friends' birthdays, etc. I'm doing nothing. Why are people asking me what I did over break? Did you do anything? It's fucking COVID, what did you expect me to do?
