Why do we think eggs are such a huge reproductive burden on women?

Sorry this is my first time in this sub, I'm just gonna go ahead and admit I'm a woman and I'm going to be using one 'I' after another, so I apologize for that.

I've found this sub after seeing a few videos on YouTube, and I've been reading the rules and FAQ. I completely understand where the notion that women's reproductive burden far out weighs men's comes from, in the past. Previous to modern medicine, yes, I completely agree, but that isn't the case anymore.

I'm not talking about the financial burden and the financial risk of pregnancy, I'm just talking about the actual medical burden of reproduction, and the risk of death. According to the CDC and WHO, in the US, the maternal mortality rate is 20.7 per 100,000.

What really got me was that I came across this website, informationisbeautiful.net, that compares the risk of death and violence from various activities, and one of those is the risk of death from a prostatectomy, which is 5.6 per 100,000, which is less than half the mortality rate for child birth. I then looked up the mortality rate for prostate cancer itself (not just the surgery), and according to the NIH, the morality rate for prostate cancer specifically is 2.9 per 100,000 in the US.

I personally have PCOS, which makes it extremely hard for me to become pregnant and I've been told that I have about a 1% chance of getting pregnant without IVF (and for some reason senator Josh Hawley doesn't want to pay for that). So I'm not someone who is going to bare the burden of pregnancy and child birth.
