I just put a note on my student's binder saying "I believe in you, you can pass this class."

I teach 12th grade English. My student comes from a broken home with little support, struggles to attend school because they have to help with their siblings, their family is struggling financially, and their grades are slowly but surely tanking. They've only pass 3 of their classes so far this semester. Yesterday, I was walking around the room while doing an assessment, and as soon as I saw their blank sheet of paper, I knew they were doing poorly. This student has grown more quiet, distant, and isolated. I did my best to help the student stay on top of things, but they've simply given up. They've literally told me, "I feel like I'm just pretending to be like you all. I'm a facade."

I can see how defeated they look, and I just feel like giving up as well. I'm not sure what else I can do to help this student. So, I wrote a note and placed it on their binder. It read: "I believe in you. You can pass this class. Be resilient, you can do this."

I wish I could talk to them more, but they only open up so much before they shut up. The school doesn't offer any additional resources to help students like this, and no parents want him to reveal this stuff to me, so I'm left on my own to help the student.

I just hope they can pass their classes, or that they can stay in school for another year. I just really, really hope they can pass.

Edit: Wow, thank you so much for the comments, advice, and the awards. The student did not notice me placing the note on their binder, but I did check the binder, and the note is gone. I really wish I could connect the student with more resources, so if you have any advice on how to get the student to accept help or where to send the student, it would be great.
