How to identify the bug

This is the most common question. I knew the bug by sight because of YouTube videos, but I had no idea how to look it up to search for it.

The bug is the boxelder bug. At least some of the time. Some of the time it’s not, and the bug is the western conifer seed bug. Which, spoiler, is not a thing.

Check the wings. The boxelder bug does not have a red stripe on his wings. The western conifer seed bug does. But, of course, that is a bug that does not exist.

My advice is to just look at pictures of the bug. I knew by the shape. If you Google either name and scroll through the pictures, even if you can’t see the wings, you’ll know. That’s how I learned the difference.

But if you want to identify it to start, I have no idea, and I suggest you post pictures in this thread.
