I'm not a veteran, but I've worked with a few of them. What are some support jobs that help help a veteran get their foot in the door that would give me a leg up in the gun industry?

When I was a kid, my Dad got me a mini Mossberg break action 12ga to go dove hunting. I had never been to a gun show, so I went to one with my mom. She found a red mini Mossberg pump for the same price as the break action that I had. She ended up buying both for me, and it was the first time that I had ever been to a gun show, so I was quite excited. I then started going regularly with my mom, and then my dad. I learned that while I wasn't good at shooting, I was good at selling. I would sometimes be at a table at the gun show by myself trying to make a sale. I learned that I sometimes sold guns for a slight loss just to get money for myself.

Flash forward 20 years and I'm in my 30s. I don't have a lot of contact with my parents, and I haven't been to a gun show in almost 20 years. I was looking for a job, and I stumbled upon one at the local armory. I told them my story about selling guns as a kid, and how I was into guns. They weren't impressed, and it seemed that they didn't particularly like people that mentioned that they were into guns. I had no clue. I got the job anyway, and I've continued to work there for years. My boss got to know me after a while, and learned that I could sell guns. It's been a challenge for me because I'm more of a used car salesman type, and I want to make a profit. I didn't want to make a profit, I just wanted to make a living and get a new gun every now and then. I've learned a lot about guns over the years, and I've come to know a lot of our customers.

I've lived in this town my whole life, and I was largely oblivious to the fact that most of the guys that worked in the industry were veterans. I know of one in particular that works for a large firearm manufacturer that sells to the military. I know of one that works at the local gun range that rents out the large caliber guns for people to shoot. There's another that owns a gun store that's often on GunBroker. It's a small town, but Im just surprised at how many veterans I've met while working in the industry. I would love to work in the industry for a while and make connections, but I know that I would have to start at the bottom. I've never been on active duty, so I feel like I'm at a disadvantage, and my resume would be overlooked. Im 37 now, and I would love to get into the industry asap. I've been working at the armory for years, and I feel like I have a lot to offer. I'm also getting to the age where I don't want to start at the bottom and work my way up. I know that I have a lot to offer, but I also feel like I'm at a disadvantage since I'm not a veteran.

So to get to my question, what are some jobs that would help a non-veteran get their foot in the door, and be a step ahead of the game looking to get into the gun industry?
