You're a teacher somewhere in the country. I have to tell you that my student threatened to shoot up your school, and not just your school, but schools adjacent to yours. This threat was made on Wednesday and my school found out about it in the morning. I'm assuming your schools just became aware of it today.

What does this mean for you? It means that the police are going to be at your school tomorrow. When you hear the announcement, you will need to get your students into lockdown mode and call your school admin to let them know your room is secure.

Protect yourself. Protect your students. If a shooter is in the school, you have to prepare for that. Prepare for the worst.

I'm sick to my stomach. I never thought a student of mine would do something like this. When the shooting first happened at my school, I thought it was an accident. That the student was getting ready for a school play and left a real gun out, or that a teacher didn't know the gun was real because it was a "stage prop." I didn't want to believe that a student in my class would do something like this.

Protect yourself. Protect your students. I can't imagine what you're going through right now. I can't imagine what it's like to be in the position that we were in. We are still picking up the pieces, and it's been days. I have to prepare for what a shooting does to a school long term. Our school won't be the same for the rest of the year, and that's just part of the reality of what happened. When you find out what your school is going to be like going forward from here, it's going to be hard for you. You have to be strong for your students.

Protect yourself. Protect your students. Tomorrow, we are going to have counselors at a library near our school for students and teachers to go if they need to talk to someone. I will be there. I will be strong for my students. If you need to talk to someone, go talk to someone. If you can't handle it, take the day off. If you need to cry, cry. Our school will never be the same, and yours might not be either if they have to do an active shooter lockdown.

I never thought this would happen at my school. I bet that you never thought this would happen at yours, either.

Protect yourself. Protect your students.
