ELI5: what dos the world do during the day?

This probably sounds dumb, however whenever I am sleeping or just doing stuff around the house or go out, it feels like everyone else is asleep or just sitting around the house doing nothing. I am just wondering what goes on when people are at home doing stuff instead of going out during the day.
