I'm trying to use this method to get my finances organized. Did it work for you?

The method of planning your meals for a week, shopping for all the ingredients at once, and prepping your week of meals in one big day. <br><br>I'm not doing this for food, but for my finances. I've run through Dave Ramsey's steps, paid off my debt (excluding my mortgage), put aside a good emergency fund, and contributed to my IRA for the year. <br><br>I'm trying to plan out how I'm going to save up for a big home renovation, save up for retirement, save up for big future purchases, all of it, and calculate what my monthly contributions need to be. <br><br>But I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this. I'm trying to breakdown what I know I need to save for and put in a number. But it's hard to plan for that kind of stuff, especially renovations. <br><br>I'm talking to my husband now about our safety net. I think I have a good handle on where I want all of our money to go, but I'm having a hard time planning for how much we need to save for.<br><br>I'm trying to plan for:<br><br>Retirement<br>College for our kids<br>If we want to sell our house, how much we need to have to be able to put a good down payment on a new house<br>A home renovation<br>A new roof<br>A new driveway<br>A new car<br>Replacing our garage door<br><br>And I don't know how much any of those things cost or how much we need to save. <br><br>How did you calculate what you needed to save for if you did this with your finances?
