I'm a trans girl and I hate catgirls. I hate catgirls because they are an offensive fetish, an eroticization of a group of people. Catgirls sexualize the trans experience. In fact, any anthropomorphized depiction of an animal with breasts and/or a vagina demeans a portion of the trans experience. These fetishistic depictions of animals are so incredibly common in media, both in Japan and in the Western world.

It is critical to remember that these fetishizations are not just sexualizations of non-human animals. The same ways in which catgirls are fetishized are the same ways in which trans people are fetishized. We are fetishized for our genitalia, for our bodies that do not look traditionally male or female. We are fetishized for our sexualities and gender identities. We are fetishized for our voices, mannerisms, and personalities that do not conform to the gender we were assigned at birth. In all ways, catgirls are fetishizations of trans people.

Trans people are also portrayed as creeps. In television, any trans character will almost always be a sex offender or a weirdo of some sort. This is the same portrayal that catgirls get. They are usually the weird student in a Japanese high school, or an NEET who uses the computer all day to pleasure themselves. They are depicted as having a low social status, and they are the objects of bullying and harassment. They are seen as lesser than humans, and that's how trans people are treated. We are creeps, sexualizers, and pedophiles. We are the butt of a thousand jokes and we are often seen as objects, not people. It's a sad reality, and it's what catgirls are.

We must remember that the hate for catgirls is intersectional with the hate for trans people. In fact, many people hate catgirls because they remind them of trans people. Many people see trans people as catgirls, as sexual deviants and pedophiles. We are lesser than humans. We are not people. We are objects and fetishizations and catgirls. It's how they see us. When we hate catgirls, we are also fighting against a system of oppression that seeks to sexualize and dehumanize trans people.

If you support trans people, you must oppose catgirls. They are sexualizations of us and are incredibly offensive. It is not an attack on anime. It is an attack on a system that seeks to dehumanize and sexualize us. Many people see anime as a subversive medium in which we can explore our desires and fantasies. In reality, anime is just another way in which neoliberalism has managed to commodify and fetishize marginalized groups.

The same ways in which catgirls are fetishized are the same ways in which trans people are fetishized. Many people see this sub as a circlejerk full of uninformed people who hate anime but don't know anything about it. If you think that, you are incredibly misinformed and you just don't get it.
