The USA had been happily sitting out the war in Europe. Many people on the East Coast were against entering the war, with thousands of men joining the America First Committee. But then Pearl Harbor happened, and public opinion turned 180 degrees. The US declared war on Japan, and when Germany declared war on them, they declared war on Germany too.

But what would the USA have done if Japan hadn't attacked Pearl Harbor, and instead invaded Java, Sumatra, Borneo, and Malaysia, as many had thought they would? Would there have been pressure on the US government to declare war on Japan? Or would they still have stayed out of it?
