Why did this place become so... normal?

i started browsing this shithole in 2010-2011, and it was... special. it was like a cozy, dirty, drunken tavern that served alcohol to minors. the kind of place that if you told your friends irl about it, they would've looked at you like you're crazy. the users were psychopaths that were stuck in their bedrooms and spent their time doing unfunny but entertaining pranks. the boards were all special in their own ways. /a/ was dominated by snarky comments with no caps and /m/ was full of homo erotic space romance. even now, i sometimes go onto /k/ to see what all these lonely national socialists do when they aren't out ripping up pamphets and going to nyfw shows.<br><br>these days, the front page is a subset of reddit. most of the posts are either riserian "jokes" or lame memes. the reccomended tab is full of nyx and other non-4chan art. the reccomended tab is full of art with a custom made watermark of the artists name on it? it's not 4chan anymore. all the posts of "what happened to this site" are achingly familiar to me because i feel like this place has lost its magic. dont even get me started on the porn ads. i know its not a popular opinion but i was never particularly big on CP. it was never something that i engaged with, but i knew it was there. the porn ads on this site are so much worse. they're so much more explicit than anything that was posted here with far more disturbing fetishes. they're so loud and obnoxious, i can hear them echoing in my mind long after i close my tab. the porn ads on this site are so much worse than any CP because they're so in-your-face and impossible to block because they use audio.<br><br>i guess the biggest problem that i face with 4chan is the porn ads. that, and the sites lack of personality now. i'm not sure i'd call it the "front page of the internet" anymore. it's just a micro social media platform now, and most of the posts are just the same tired, cliche chambers "jokes" with a few riserian posts in between them. dont even get me started on the porn ads.
