Prank your kids to get them to save money

So here's a story from my uncle (french):

My uncle is a wealthy man. He has a very large family with 4 kids. During the holidays he likes to take the kids ice skating. He also likes to pay for the transportation when his kids are younger.

Every year, he lets his kids keep the money for the transportation, and he lets them pay for the ice skating tickets whenever they want.

So he's been doing this since forever, and one day, he decided to try something. At the train station, before he was about to pay for the tickets, he whispers to his kids that he's going to let them pay for the tickets, as they have some money with them (he claims that he doesn't have enough money on him for the tickets). Then he makes a fake phone call to his "friend" asking him to bring him 700frr when he gets to the ice skating rink, and he lets his kids hear the call to make it sound real.

By the time they get to the rink, he makes up another excuse, and lets the kids pay for their tickets. And then the kids are unsure if he ever intended to pay for the ice skating trip before. Has he ever been lying to them? Is he going to ask them to pay forever from now on?

As a result, he says the kids keep their money safely in their pockets, and ask him to pay for everything from now on. Ha ha.

So this is a funny trick that you can use on your kids if they spend too much, while also teaching them to save.

Edit: By the way, this trick can also be used on adult friends or family that you go to spend time with.

Edit2: I'm not sure how it came across to some of you that the uncle was lying. He never lies to his kids or cheats on them. He always pays for the tickets. But he lets them pay for it once and a while to see how it goes.
