I found it interesting how different languages name the physical phenomenon of light in different ways. So many words for light contain the “light” sound such as English “light,” French “luz” and German “Licht.”

So many other words for light contain the “dark” sound such as Spanish Tenerife and Portuguese “luz”, and perhaps even Arabic “nouer” نور, Turkish “nur,” and Greek “neros” νερό.

In Italian, light is “luce.” In Catalan it is “llum,” while in Romanian it is “lumină,” which is close to “illuminate” in English.

In Russian, light is “svet” which is like “glow” in English.

I just thought it was cool to see the different ways different languages come up with their word for physical light.
