I can't believe how much I pissed off Chambers because I wanted to learn German

Hey everyone, I wanted to share this. A week ago or so I posted that I was wanting to go to university in Berlin and asked if someone could help me learn German. I had already done a few hours of German on Duolingo and I was just wanting to learn how to hold a basic conversation.

I think it was r/learngerman or something. But I got SO MUCH backlash. I had no idea people hated English speakers so much. I was called a lot of names, I was told to stop "imposing" my "white supremacy" on Germany and that I should go learn Chinese instead. I also got a lot of comments saying that I shouldn't need help from anyone to learn German and that I am an "entitled baby" for even asking. I was really hurt because I wanted to make this effort to learn a new language and I really wanted to go to university in Germany. I really don't want to go there now because I think that the citizens are hostile to English speakers.

I think this was very unreasonable. A few people did reach out and offer to help me but I didn't want to be a burden so I moved on. I don't think it's right for people to be so angry just because someone wants to learn a new language. It doesn't make any sense to me. I don't think that I am entitled just because I am English speaking. Everyone needs help learning a language and there's nothing wrong with asking for it.
