I met someone who claimed to be the devil

I’ve seen a lot of things in my line of work, but nothing could have prepared me for what was about to happen.

When you’re a detective, you don’t really have much of a life outside of work. Even when you’re not technically on the clock, you’re constantly getting calls from your coworkers and superiors about the cases you’re working on. People might think it’s a bit fucked up, but I actually found it kind of comforting in a way. It’s almost a distraction from the fact that I’m single, don’t have any real friends outside of the department, and that aside from my job, I don’t really have much of a purpose.

I wasn’t always like this though. I was married, and had a wonderful little boy. But that all ended a few years ago, with a phone call that changed everything. My wife was involved in a car accident on her way home from work, and didn’t survive. Our boy died before he even had a chance to live.

Even after all this time, I still haven’t really come to terms with it. That may be why I put 110% of myself into my work. It’s also probably why I was chosen to work this case. When you don’t have anything holding you back you don’t have to worry about what you do in your personal life affecting a case you’re working on. Or at least that’s what I thought.

I was working a case involving a string of occult related disappearances involving children. The thing that connected all of the cases, and what led us to believe it was the same person, was a huge carving of a cross found in every location where a child went missing. It was a real fucked up situation, and what led me to where I am now.

I was sitting at my desk one evening, going over all of the case files from the past week, when I got an unusual call. An anonymous tip, from a person claiming to have information about the case I was working on. This was nothing out of the ordinary, I get tips like this pretty often, but this one was different.

The voice on the other end was very monotone and emotionless, and it sounded like a tape recording being played over the phone. He told me that if I wanted to catch the person I was looking for, I needed to go to the old, abandoned church on the outskirts of town at 10 o’clock that night.

I obviously didn’t take this call very seriously at first, but something about it caught my attention. The voice. It was so unusual, so inhuman almost. I decided to go to the church, not necessarily because I thought there would be any leads, but because I was just a little curious.

I arrived at the church at exactly 10 o’clock, and as soon as I stepped inside, I got an extremely eerie feeling. I don’t know if it’s because of the fact that it was an old church, but something in the air just felt wrong. I pulled out my flashlight and turned it on, casting a beam of light all around the room. That’s when I noticed it. A man, sitting in one of the pews towards the back. He was just sitting there, looking down. I approached him, hand on my sidearm.

“Excuse me sir, but I’m going to have to ask you to leave,” I said calmly, not showing any signs of my hand trembling.

When he stood up, I immediately felt a chill run down my spine. He was a tall man, with a large build, and he wore what looked like a long black suit with a white shirt. I couldn’t see his face, as it was in the shadows, but I could tell he was looking directly at me.

“May I help you?” he asked in a deep voice.

“Like I said, I’m going to have to ask you to leave,” I repeated.

“Is there any reason why I should have to leave?”

“Well, for one, this church has been condemned for years, and it’s illegal to be in here.”

“Oh, I see,” he said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a large stack of cash and tossed it on the ground in front of me. “Consider any illegal activity on my part, forgiven.”

I picked up the stack of cash and counted it. There must have been at least $10,000 there in $100 bills. I couldn’t help but feel that this guy was either a drug dealer, or a hit man. I decided to call for backup, as I didn’t want to take this guy in alone.

“Alright,” I said as I put the cash in my pocket and called for backup.

“Thanks,” he said as he walked closer to me. “My name is Michael, by the way.”

“Thanks for telling me that, I’ll make sure to remember it when you’re behind bars.”

“I’m afraid that’s not going to happen detective,” he said with a smile as he revealed his face to me. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. His eyes seemed to glow, and his teeth appeared to be extremely sharp. He looked demonic, almost.

There was a lot of commotion after that. I pulled out my sidearm and pointed it at him and told him to freeze. He just stepped aside, and that’s when I saw her, a little girl. She couldn’t have been more than ten years old. I recognized her from the picture her parents had brought me when they reported her missing. It was one of the missing children from the case I was working on.

I pointed my weapon at Michael and told him to get down on the ground, but he just laughed and walked up to me. I cocked my weapon, ready to fire, but he moved at a speed I had never seen in my life. Before I had time to react, he had my gun pointed at my own temple.

“You see Michael, there is no reason for this little girl to die, right?” he said as he cocked the weapon, putting his finger on the trigger.

“That’s right,” I replied, trying to stall.

“Well then, she isn’t going to die. Yet,” he said as he turned me around, still pointing the gun at my head, and began to walk me to the back of the church. That’s when I heard the commotion. I couldn’t see it, but I could hear the sound of bullets flying and men screaming in agony. I was being taken to my own death.

I was able to think of my son in the last few seconds of my life. I thought about all of the things I would never get to do with him. I would never get to teach him how to ride a bike. I would never get to see him graduate from high school. I would never get to walk him down the aisle at his wedding.

I was ready to die. I had let the fear take over me, and I knew that this was it. This was the end for me.

I closed my eyes as I heard the sound of the gun cocking. It was over.

I opened my eyes again, and Michael was on the ground, not moving. There was a figure standing over him, a woman, and she was holding my gun. She pointed it at my face, and I was about to take my last breath when she lowered it back down.

“You don’t know what you’re doing,” she said as she shot Michael again. “We need to get out of here now.”

I didn’t argue with her. I just followed her out of the church, not stopping until we were in her car and driving down the street. I decided to ask her a few questions once we were a few blocks away.

“Why did you help me?” I asked.

“I’m like you,” she said. “I lost a lot, and I don’t want you to go through that.”

“When I first saw you, where did you come from?”

“I saw you walking into the church, and I followed you.”

“Why?”

“I was following that man,” she said as she pointed behind us.

I looked in the rearview mirror and saw Michael walking down the street, towards the church. I looked back at her, in shock.

“That’s impossible,” I said. “I saw you shoot him. I saw him on the ground, and you were standing over him. I saw him die.”

“Under normal circumstances, that would be true,” she said. “But this man is not a normal man.”

I looked back in the rearview mirror. He was still there. I looked back at her, then back at the rearview mirror again, then I looked at her and smiled as I realized what was going on.

“Who is he?”

“He is the devil.”

“Who are you?”

“I am an angel.”
