Guy tries to break into the wrong apartment the night after I move in

I was moving out of my parents house for the first time, and I got the keys to my place on the last Friday of the month. But since I didn't want to waste rent money, I waited until the 1st to move in. So I got the keys, checked out the place and left. And then the first night I spent there... this shit happened.

Around 2AM I heard the front door try to open. But it was locked and the guy was either drunk or high because he tried the handle in a jerky fashion that was loud as Hell. I don't know what's more disturbing, the fact he tried to break in, or the fact that he didn't try the handle before trying to break down the door. I immediately grabbed my phone and put it on the ground near the door so it's closer to the intruder, and quietly called 911.

The guy then starts yelling "Are you fucking with me?" And "This is my door, why is it locked?!" What the Hell... I don't know what possessed him to think this, but he then starts to try to actually break down the door. I haven't lived in this place before, but I've never heard of a thin wooden door without even a dead bolt lock. Especially not in this crime riddled neighborhood. So I wasn't too confidence this door would hold up. But I'm not much of a fighter.

The guy first tries to kick the door in, but his drunken kicks are weak as Hell. I can hear him stumble and almost fell over every time. I'm also talking to the 911 operator and she lets me know they're on their way. I tell her that the guy is trying to break in... right as he decides to ram the door shoulder first. That's like something out of a bad comedy movie. I can hear him ram the door, and the door just... opens. I don't get it. The guy clearly doesn't get it either.

He just kind of stumbles in... right into the line of the flashlight app on my phone, which is right in the view of the camera. So the operator and police on their way can see him. What first caught my attention was the door didn't break down. I thought maybe he picked the lock? What the Hell. I later found out that the original tenant who lived there before me actually had the landlord install a massive metal door that was more secure. What this guy did was use his key. Yes he had a key. I didn't know this at the time, but the reason he had the key is because he lived there previously, and the landlord gave him an extension on moving out when the old tenant moved in.

Anyway the guy is stumbling around. He has a bottle of Jack in one hand, and an empty handle of something in the other. I'm actually impressed he was able to hold onto that booze. He was clearly drunk. He eventually made his way to the kitchen, and I could hear him drinking the Jack. I'm thinking... I haven't lived here. I don't know this guy. But I do remember smelling booze... I haven't cleaned out this place yet. So I decided to check the cupboards. I haven't lived there yet, so I don't know if there booze or not... I haven't exactly checked the cupboards either.

I walked out of the room and the guy sees me. He lets out a loud shriek, like a startled animal, and starts to charge me. I ran back into the room and locked the door. And put the desk in the way. I told the operator the guy was coming for me and she told me to stay on the line and get away from the door. The police quickly arrived, and I heard them try to talk to the guy and he's babbling about "his property" and some insane bullshit. Then they tazed him which sounds like it hurt like Hell.

The operator told me it was safe to come out. I walked out to see two police officers standing over the guy who's writhing in pain. They said they found weed in his pocket, but it was so small it technically wasn't illegal. But... they arrested him for breaking and entering, and told me they'd make sure to tell the landlord so he actually moved out this time. I'm not gonna lie, I'm the guy who always has to get the last word. And this situation was too good. So I walked over to the guy, while he's being dragged away in handcuffs, and said "This isn't your apartment. And you don't know me. But... let's not meet again"

EDIT: Wow this was unexpected. Thank you kind stranger for the silver. And thank you all for the awards. I'm glad I could entertain you with my story.
