My friend is a great comedic writer, but whenever he invites us over to the apartment he shares with his boyfriend, he always wants to try out new comedic bits he’s working on.

Of course, this is under the guise that he, the comedic writer, needs an audience to test the bits.

It’s all fair and good. But what gets on my nerves is that he wants to serve us food, badly. He insists that comedic bits are better out in the real world, and what’s more real world than sharing a meal together.

He also wants to be a comedic writer out in the real world. In other words, he wants to be professional with his content.

I’ve been to a couple comedic writers events around town, the kind where you pay to get in, and with your ticket stub, you get a free brunch that comes with your ticket.

The comedic writers out in the real world know how to cook. They have professional chefs who come out to these events. The food is amazing. And the comedy is great.

Altogether, it’s a good time.

My comedic writer friend is the complete opposite of that. He wants to test his bits out, badly, while out in the real world, badly.

It’s just sad to see someone fail so much at what they want to do. The food is bad, the comedy is bad, it’s all just sad.

And he wants to do it professionally? It’s just not going to happen.

If I could give him one piece of advice, it would be to just stick to the comedy club.
