Why don't you ever open the door?

This happened about 6 years ago when I was visiting a friend in NY. I lived in NJ at the time, and was meeting him at his parent's house because they were out of town and I was excited to be in NY so I was going to explore the city after we played some games.

I had to drive through some sketchy areas of Long Island to get to his place. It was about 3:30, and I had never been to the neighborhood he lived in, so I wanted to get there while it was still daylight so I could see where I was going.

I pulled up to his house, and it was a great street. Very well kept houses, a lot of trees and pretty quiet. I saw him waiting in the window, and waved. I parked my car about 3 houses away, and walked to the door. As I was walking towards the door, I noticed a guy sitting in his car with tinted windows. It was unusual because the street was dead. No other cars even driving by. So, For whatever reason, I walked across his lawn and towards my car.

I don't know why I did it, but I felt uneasy. I walked up to the car, and he was staring at me. I don't know, something told me to go back to my car and drive away. So I did. I drove down the block, and called my friend to let him know I was there. I told him I was going to wait for him at a nearby restaurant (it was near his house) and I would meet him there.

I pulled into the restaurant parking lot, and ordered some food to go (I wasn't comfortable eating inside after what just happened). As I was waiting for my food, the guy with tinted windows pulls up next to me, and starts staring at me. I don't think he noticed me at first, but once he did, he kept looking. I was really nervous at this point, and decided I would call the police.

I called the police, told them what was happening and gave them my location. They told me to stay in my car, and not to move. I was so scared. I started to cry. I thought my life was over. The guy was still staring at me. I was talking to the police and crying, so I don't know if he noticed or not, but he got back in his car and drove away.

The police picked me up at the restaurant and drove me to my friend's house where they waited until he got home. They said they found the guy, and he had warrants out for his arrest. They pulled him over, and his car was filled with knives. He had a record of breaking and entering, and he had a history of violence. They told me if I would have gone into my friends house, I would have been in serious danger.

Always trust your instincts. If something feels off, it probably is.
