For a long time, automation has been increasing. Self checkout, automated manufacturing, etc. But we’re on the edge of AI automation being able to take on an unprecedented amount of jobs once reserved for humans.

AI can already outperform human lawyers in court cases. They can read and analyze information far faster than any human. They can do this in a number of fields pertaining to information comprehension and analysis.

We’re cutting out the middle class by automating these jobs. But automation also makes these types of jobs more accessible and cut out the middle man of capitalism, allowing customers to access the product or service directly.

Take the example of a lawyer. A lawyer has to charge his customer to make a living and get a profit. But AI can bypass the lawyer and charge the customer directly for access to the AI, likely at a much cheaper rate than an in-person lawyer.

We’re on the edge of revolutionizing many parts of society in this manner. But we’re also cutting out the middle class which is causing a large rift in society.

I think the once talked about idea of Universal Basic Income is a possible way to fix this problem.
