I've never been so pissed off about the AI debate

I'm a young, employed software engineer, living in Sweden and I'm currently studying computer science in my spare time. I've been writing code for fun since I was 8, always working on passion projects, always experimenting with new things. I'm not extremely talented, but I'm happy with what I've achieved and I'm proud of it.

I'm not writing this post to complain, I'm not writing it because I'm upset about losing my job or my life's purpose. I'm writing it because of the people around me that I see struggling.bright, talented people with a passion for engineering who are now questioning the value of what they do. That's what I'm mad about.

I had a friend recently tell me that he's afraid of telling his parents that he wants to pursue engineering because of all the negative gossip about AI replacing us and many other similar anecdotes.bright, young people with a passion for engineering who are someone questioning the value of what they do. That's what I'm mad about.

That's what I'm mad about. People talking about how bad it is that AI is replacing human engineers. I feel like they're demeaning our profession and what we do without making an effort to understand it. No, you won't need to manually write code in the coming years. But yes, you will still need people to write code and think critically about what you want to do. Much like the painters of the Renaissance didn't paint the walls of houses anymore after they discovered how to synthesise colour pigment. Instead, they went on to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, or at least that's what I hope for the future of thisbright, young people with a passion for engineering who are someone questioning the value of what they do. That's what I'm mad about.

I hope to live in a future world where code is written by AI machines. When a human can, without having to deal with the bureaucracy and hassle of coding, tell a machine to solve a problem and it can just do it. That's an attractive idea someone questioning the value of what they do. That's what I'm mad about.
