It's almost 2024, why do we still have to do 10 things to start a conference call? If I call you, I'm calling for a reason. I don't want to hear any of your shit while I'm waiting for you.

First it's getting through your front desk, or my front desk. Then it's going through an operator to make sure I'm calling someone who is allowed to get my calls, then it's waiting to see if you'll answer or the voicemail picks up. If the voicemail is full, then I get to call them all over again in 10 minutes.

If your company has it's own internal operator to compere you to my internal operator to the receptionist, you really don't need an operator.

I love technology, but sometimes it makes me feel like our lives are just compounding complexity to the point that we need 10 people to do a simple task we could've done with one.

Also, when I call you, I really just want to talk to you, or have a conference, or something. I don't want to be bombarded with information about your voicemail system, your company's name, your name, the current time of day, your compere, your voicemail, your compere person's name, all before it finally rings and I get to listen to your ringtone before I can talk to someone.

You know what compere means? It's a person who acts as master of ceremonies at a function. I don't know what it means in a corporate setting. I have over 1000 employees and we compere all our calls. There is one compere for our entire company. When you call into the company he answers. It is the same compere that has answered every phone call since 1980. He is 96 and still compere's to this day.
