Make sure to check your doors and windows regularly.

I was about 7 or 8.

I lived in a middle class neighborhood. The houses were about 40 feet apart, but on my street there were only about 5 houses on each side.

My house was on the corner, so from the street of our main road going into the neighborhood I could see the middle of our street, and from the side road I could see the end of the street.

It was around 3pm, and I was in my room watching tv. I was home alone on the weekend, as my parents were at work and my brother was at a friends house.

I remember looking at the window and seeing a man standing in the backyard. I don't know how he got there, I didn't see or hear any signs of him, but that day I looked out of my window and he was there.

He was a tall thin white male with long black hair down to his shoulders and a black leather jacket. He looked like a bad boy biker or something.

He was walking around the backyard looking around and smoking a joint. He didn't see me at first and he didn't notice my Dad's car in the driveway. We parked in the front, but you could see the driveway from the side yard.

I remember I had this weird feeling for a second like, why is this guy in my yard?.

I thought it was weird, but I didn't think anything of it, I just went back to watching my cartoon.

I looked again and he was still there, and that is when I started to get a little nervous. I went outside and yelled at him from the front yard.

"Hey! What are you doing in my yard?".

I didn't want to startle him because I didn't know what he would do. I mean I was a kid and he was a stranger high on weed and in my yard.

Then he looked at me. He didn't respond. He just stared at me. I continued to yell at him, I yelled to get off of my property, I yelled for him to leave me alone, but he just stared at me.

I became afraid so I ran inside and ran to my parents room and locked the door. I was in there for about 10 minutes crying and shaking until my Dad got home.

I told him what happened and he was mad.

He said I should have called the cops. I was like "I'm 7, how was I supposed to know that?".

He was mad, but also understanding.

Everytime I would look out of my window, the guy would be there smoking his joint. I remember my Dad asking me which way the guy went. I pointed to the corner of the street where he walked away.

He grabbed his baseball bat and said he was going to go find the guy.

My Dad left and walked down the street towards where I pointed. I watched as he stopped at the corner and looked down the street, and then he took off in a full sprint.

I followed him as he ran down the street.

He was running towards a guy with long black hair down to his shoulders and a black leather jacket.

My Dad caught up to him and I could see him talking and pointing towards our house. The guy started walking towards us at a faster pace.

My dad stayed behind him as the guy walked towards the house.

As the guy got closer, I could see the look of panic and anger on his face. He looked like he was high, but he looked like he was angry.

I watched as my Dad pushed the guy into the street at gun point and made him lay face down. He called the cops and they came and arrested the guy.

The cops told us that the guy had warrants for burglary, and he had a history of sexual assault and rape.

The cops said that they believed that he would have done something to me that day if he hadn't gotten caught. They told us that they believed that he had been casing the neighborhood for a while and looking for the right house.

Luckily for me he picked the wrong house, because even though he was a criminal, my Dad is a hero.
