Living a life of our own

Hello everyone. Today I thought I’d talk a bit about how to escape the restrictive society we all live in and live a life of our own.

I have a strong conviction that our capitalist system is rigged to alienate us from our values.

The biggest goal for corporations is to make money. Marketing campaigns are designed to make you feel inadequate so that you buy things you don’t really need. The more things you buy, the more you help create the problems that come with capitalism.

Capitalist systems exploit people and the environment to maximize profit. The idea that one has to make profit is so deeply ingrained in our minds. From childhood onward, we are told that we have to make money to survive. We do things solely for profit, things we don’t even enjoy or would never do if we really wanted to, but we have to maximize our earning potential according to society’s expectations.

I’m tired of being told what to do. As I see it, the problem is not really capitalism itself. Some level of free enterprise is fine. But it’s the corporations that abuse the system for profit and sway governments to exploit people and the environment. The main problem is the capitalist system, not the free enterprise system. If our actions maximize profit for corporations, then we are not living for ourselves. If we do whatever everyone does, we do maximize profit for corporations, and not necessarily profit for ourselves. If we work solely for profit, then we’re not really living for ourselves.

I think that’s why so many people are unhappy and unfulfilled. According to the World Happiness Report, only about half of the global population is happy. The epidemic of loneliness is also real. Having problems with money is bad for our health.

I reject this capitalist system. I don’t want to be swayed by whatever everyone else is doing. I don’t want to do something solely for profit. I want to be myself, not be told what to be. We need to challenge our social norms and reject this capitalist system. We can’t let corporations maximize their profit at our expense.

In one of my favorite books, Walden, Thoreau says, “I say, beware of all enterprises that require new clothes, and not a new wearer of the clothes.”

If you’re worried about not making enough money to survive, then you do it. But everyone has a different vision of what they want to do with their life. We tend to compare ourselves to others, and that must somehow mean that we are not content with our own path in life. To hell with our own path! We need to maximize our earning potential!

So we end up in careers we don’t really want, working in a job we don’t enjoy, being exploited to do things we don’t really want to do, buying things we don’t really need, and comparing our lives to what others are doing. We can’t escape it. The epidemic of loneliness is also real. But we can create our own path in life. We can escape our capitalist system.

We can be ourselves. We can reject this capitalist system. And live for ourselves. We can make our own way in life. We can really be ourselves, not be told what to be. Capitalism is not our only choice. We can choose what we want to do with our lives. Do things our way. Everything else is just noise. It’s easy to get caught up in the noise. We don’t have to. We can really be ourselves, reject a capitalist system that alienates us from our values, and create our own path in life according to our own values. Capitalism is not our only choice.
