Finally got my friend to shut the f*** up about his “trauma” that happened 10 years ago

My friend recently got out of a long term relationship, and ever since he has not stopped talking about how shitty his parents treated him as a kid. It’s to the point where I don’t want to talk to him anymore. Every single conversation is just him ranting about how he was treated poorly. I’ve heard the story so many fucking times at this point. Every time I try to talk about something else, he quickly diverts the conversation back to how shitty his father treated him. He’ll even divert conversations with others to be about how shitty he was treated and how it has affected his life.

I’ve tried giving him advice. Telling him to let it go, move on with his life, get therapy, etc. But he just won’t let that shit go. He’ll even go as far as to say “you wouldn’t understand what it’s like to be treated like that”. Like, no, I don’t know what it’s like, but that’s not an excuse to not take my advice and continue with your life. It’s not like he’s trying to improve his life and get better either, he’s just stuck in his past and uses it as a excuse for everything.

He went to the doctor because he’s been in pain, and the doctor said he was perfectly healthy. Guess what, my friend blamed his shitty childhood for his pain. Even though the doctor said nothing was wrong with him.

He’s going to therapy but he says it’s not helping, and rather just complains about it. I actually think therapy would help him a ton but he just complains about how he isn’t improving.

So f***ing sick of hearing this dude talk about his shitty childhood. I’m done listening to him, I just walk away every time he brings it up now.
