What was everyday life like in Soviet bloc countries while the communist government was in power?

Given that the period in which these existed was also the same period in which the internet became widely available, it seems strange to me that there is very little information available detailing the everyday life of people in those countries. For example, I know next to nothing about what it was like growing up in Poland in the 80s, or living in Czechoslovakia during the 60s.

It seems like a good portion of those who lived through that time either had very little access to the internet, or has very little desire to discuss the details of everyday life in that time, so it is very rare to hear details about it.

It seems like a good topic for r/AskHistory, r/ChatHistory and r/AMA, but none of those chambers seem to get much traffic, and the few times that the topic does get brought up here, it tends to attract the usual low effort comments with little to no detail that are characteristic of this sub.

So let's try again here. This is intended to be a more open ended question than what I posted in r/AskTeenGirls. Essentially how did growing up in a Soviet bloc country compare to growing up in the western world during the same time? What were the biggest differences in your day-to-day lives?

This is something I've been kind of interested in for a while, especially now that the Soviet era is becoming history.
