If you paid off your home completely, what expenses would you still have left, and how low would you be able to get them?

Alright, let’s just imagine that you finally own your home free and clear. You own a small plot of land, but you’re surrounded by the garden, woods, and your chickens.

So, what expenses do you have left? No house payment, no insurance. It’s not that expensive to feed chickens. And once you own your chickens, you won’t need to buy them again.

So what is left? Property tax. Electricity, gas, and water, but if you had animals and a garden, you could try to get off the grid. That would just be the cost of the equipment, and then you’d be completely independent of the grid.

So, let’s say that you got off the grid. Just property tax. Food. And anything else that you need, like clothes or whatever.

So if you didn’t need to own chickens or a garden, just imagine that you’re buying food at the discount grocery store. You go twice a month to get all the staples: potatoes, oats, flour, beans, rice, peanut butter, etc. Let’s just imagine that you’re a vegetarian.

Your food cost would be very low. Just whatever your property tax is, plus maybe $100 / month for food, plus any kind of personal items that you need/want.

So, let’s just imagine that you had no property tax. How low would you be able to get your expenses?

Do you think that you could get them below $200 / month? Like what is the absolute bare minimum that you would be able to get by on.

If you were completely off the grid with no property tax, how low could you get your expenses?
