What is everyone doing while waiting for AGI?

I'm 36yo, 2 kids. I'm a software engineer. I've spent the last 5 years working on a generative AI model that makes basic copies of websites for "small" businesses (the copy of the website is made by collecting images, text, and color scheme from the original website and making a copy of the website based on that). I'm on a 4-year startup visa in Spain, and next year I'll have to show my work to a visa office in order for them to give me an indefinite stay. I grew up in South America, and I know that the government offices there are "known" to work really slow. I kept expecting that the job "demonstration" would get cancelled or postponed due to whatever government slowdowns, however they really did want me to show my work in office this week. I arrived to my work demonstration expecting everyone to be really excited and passionate about my generative AI startup, expecting endless questions and endless suggestions for "more AI". However, I kept hearing questions like "how does it work", and "Where did you learn all these things". Those questions felt like questions from the 20th century. Now I kept expecting everyone to "already know how it works", "already know how", "already know to trust it". <br><br>I grew up in a "small" city of 4 million people, and the news of my city kept being focused on the city government launching a "new AI project". However, my idea is that in the 20th century government projects would get a lot "bad press" about the "faster and better private alternatives". So yeah, I feel like there are "a lot of AI projects" that are not focused on "what are we going to do after AGI". I guess my take on this question is that all those government projects would get "more bad press" now. However, "a lot of people" are still working on "a lot of projects" that are not focused on what are we going to do after AGI, so yeah, it boils down to "it's everyone for themselves" as every other time in human history.<br><br>What is everyone doing while waiting for AGI?
