I (F22) still can’t believe what my boyfriend (M29) told me. We will probably break up because of this.

We’ve been dating for 6 months, everything is going really well. We’re at the point where we talk about everything, including relationships. We’ve discussed our past relationships, and to our surprise, we both have been cheated on in our last relationships. We both have a bad history with cheating and we both agreed that it’s a dealbreaker.

So last night, I was randomly talking about my friend who cheated on her boyfriend a long time ago. I asked my boyfriend what he would do if I cheated on him. He said he would definitely break up with me, and probably not speak to me again. I agreed with him, and I told him that it would be impossible for me to ever cheat on someone, and that I would leave if I ever felt sexless in the relationship, and that would be cheating.

He looked at me with an expression of guilt but also confusion, so I asked him what that expression was for, and he told me that he cheated on his last 2 girlfriends. I was shocked because I didn’t expect that. He looked very guilty and ashamed of it, so I asked him why he cheated, and he told me that he was young and stupid when he cheated on his first girlfriend, and when he was still in his 20s, he was too immature and unfaithful. I asked him if he was faithful to me, and he said yes, but I’m just truly wondering what it would take for him to cheat on me. He also told me that when I first brought up cheating in our convo, he got that expression because he knew that if I ever cheated, he would literally never talk to me again, but that if I knew he cheated, I would never talk to him again, but he’s really happy that I didn’t dump him.

Even though he says he’s faithful, this conversation really just made me feel uncomfortable and I’m starting to lose trust in him. I’m not sure but I think this conversation is going to ruin our relationship.
