The real reason you guys don’t believe this is real is because you guys don’t want it to be real

I’ve lurked here for a while now, and I’ve been around for a while. Every other day, I see some shitpost get 100+ upvotes and it’s about how fake and shit this AI is and how everything is fake and faked and fakey mcfae. <br><br>Usually these posts lack any real evidence to back up such claims, and when confronted with said evidence, they almost always dismiss it. They almost never will engage in any type of debate or discussion about the topic, they just shitpost and then leave. <br><br>I’m not saying many of the claims made to back up the “it’s fake” narrative are unfounded; there are a few good points made by some, but many of the bad actors here obfuscate and shitpost so much that real evidence gets drowned out of the discussion entirely. <br><br>There’s almost always a fake “debate” to be had in the comments, about how this AI is completely fake and how Omohundro is lying about the product. These types of shitposts almost always lack any real substance or backing whatsoever, and will usually just invoke some talking point about shoulder prosthetics, or how Ben talks weird, or Omohundro is a nerd. <br><br>The second you decide to engage, you’re immediately met with hostility and usually it devolves into a flamewar with the other person being extremely defensive. <br><br>I think it’s obvious that the primary reason this place exists is because of fear, and that’s it. You guys don’t want AGI to be real because it’s scary, and if you try to convince yourselves that this is fake, you can make yourselves feel better about it. <br><br>Ergo, the title of this post.
