I don’t think I’m ready to dive into minimalism yet

People who have had success with minimalism, how do you know when you’re ready to start trying it? I can’t imagine living with nothing because a) I’m a college student and b) technically I’m only 17 right now. I’m still growing and a lot of things I have right now are things I’ve had since I was a kid. I have a ton of sentimental things and I don’t know where to start. I’ve been having a lot of difficulty with the idea of letting go of things because I’m so attached to them. I’ve been having a hard time trying to make time for minimalism because I’m incredibly busy with my studies and extracurriculars. I’m not ready to commit to a minimalist lifestyle and I don’t think I will be for a while. I think I’m just going to have to wait. Any advice?

EDIT: I have to say, I’m blown away by the positive attention this has been getting. I didn’t expect it to blow up as it did. Thank you to everyone for being so kind and giving me useful advice. I’ll definitely be working on it over the break.

SECOND EDIT: Thanks for the gold, kind stranger :) I really appreciate it.
