Why do people always talk about how men get depressed because of death of their lover, and not women?

I was having a conversation with a friend about how men fall into depression and get suicidal after their wife cheats on them and dumps them, and my friend told me that this is not true, its actually women who fall into deep depression and become suicidal after their bf/husband cheats on them and dumps them. It confused me a bit, since I have had experience of men becoming suicidal after their women cheated on them and dumped them but none of the women. Can someone explain this to me?
