Hi, I'm an Asian mom. I'm not native English speaker.

I would love to hear your opinions on this. I would prefer my kid to be drop out or quit school than overly hardworking. I had never been hardworking, I learned most of things I needed by myself in my free time when I was in school. This had been my method to learn all my life. And it actually worked. I had never been the best in my class, but always pass. I never had to redouble a year in school. I'm in a mid career of the field I'm in, nothing spectacular but I'm not bad at all. I learned all my language skills by myself. I never studied abroad and since my first language is not English the company hired me, I learned English by myself for the first 5 years I worked in corporate world. I'm now able to communicate fluently in English without a problem. I learned all my graphics design skills all by myself and since my first language is not English, I learned English by myself for the first 5 years I worked in corporate world. I'm now able to communicate fluently in English without a problem. I learned all my graphics design skills all by myself. When my daughter was a toddler I would like to make a graphics design for her to decorate her room. I learned my programming skills also on my own. I never had any education formal education in graphics design nor programming. I never learn all that in school, I learn all that in my free time in teenage years.

My kid get straight A in school, she's really smart and clever. I always let her learn for herself. I don't force her to learn things if she don't want to. So far she always success, pass all the test with flying colour, I never had to send her to the after school lessons. And she's not overly hardworking. She's not a bookworm. She's not perfect but she's not really stupid in school. I prefer my kid to be drop out than being a bookworm. The reason is I see a lot of my friends' kids are overly hardworking, they are the top 5 in class, nothing below that. They are obsessed with nothing but their grade. I also see my kid's friends with the same attitude. I'm glad my kid is not like that. A lot of them have money now because they graduated from good universities, they really have a good career. But a lot of them also burn out. One of my friend's kid is now 28. She graduated from university at 23. She took a break for 5 years. Now she's 28 and really haven't have a career yet. Another example, my kid's friend graduated from medical school. They're now an intern. I heard the story from my kid. A lot of interns stop after 1 year. They would rather do another career. The reason is they're so tired of being an intern. The hours are crazy with little pay. I know being an intern is the entry to being a doctor. But a lot of them can't do it. A lot of them would rather do other career. They are really burn out. They can't do it. I'm glad my kid is not like them.

I prefer my kid to be a high school dropout than overly hardworking.
