ELI5: what is pink noise?

My friends room mate put this ear splitting screeching in my friends audio and I don’t get how pink noise is like, pink, or what it’s used for. Or where pink noise is in the first place. I just don’t understand how pink noise works and stuff. So, if you can help me understand, thanks
