Throwaway is for obvious reasons.

I wont go into too much detail about our family, but one of my children has some special needs, and he kept having very difficult episodes, so we needed 1:1 help for a time. As a result, we hired an exchange student from Japan so that while my son had a 1:1 aide, the Japanese girl / student would be kept very busy with the other children in the home.

We just did a typical background check / interview, and everything seemed fine, so we hired her. When she first moved in, she was very very quiet. But as time went on, she started to open up, even teach the kids some Japanese. She was a great employee so far.

For about a week before the following incident, we would find post it notes around the home. In Japanese. It was a bit weird, but we thought maybe she did this as a game for the kids to learn Japanese / to keep herself busy. We didn't think much of it.

One day I was just walking past my bedroom, and I noticed a note on the door. In Japanese. I walked inside my room and looked around / saw that there were a few post it notes in my room, some on the bed, one on our nightstand between my husband and my glasses, just little notes.

I peeled one off the bed, and put it in my pocket. I went to work, and during lunch asked one of my coworkers to translate it. She is Japanese but was born in the US, and speaks Japanese fluently, as she used to live there. She looked at the note and got very pale / upset. She told me it said "I wish I could sleep here one night"

I immediately called my husband and told him, and he searched the home. When he found her, she was in my daughter's room. He told her to pack her bags / that she had 30 minutes to leave. She started crying and begging to stay. In hindsight, it's possible she lied about her background / that she was crazy, and that was her last hope to have a home. But I didn't care / still don't care. I have children / a family to protect.

While she was packing her bags, my daughter told my husband she was crying and saying goodbye. My husband did allow her to say goodbye / be around other children in the home, but he did watch to make sure she didn't leave a note anywhere.

Once she was gone, and we figured out everything was okay - that she didn't harm anyone, or anything - we all kind of laughed about it. But as a woman, and a mother, it's very very creepy.

She was young, and I don't know what influenced her, but I just hope she gets help. And if she does / did have a mental health issue, I hope she never is placed in a home with children again.

I do use a password on my phone / laptop etc, but I never thought I needed to lock my bedroom door. Now my bedroom door is locked at all times.

This is a story for /c/letsnotmeet because she did leave very creepy notes, and we had no clue until we got the note translated.

I hope she is okay, but, Naoko, let's not meet again.
