Why do you all have so much stuff when you call yourself minimalists?

My boyfriend watches YouTube videos all the time introducing "minimalist" people and they have normal houses with full of normal stuff when they call themselves "minimalist" and I guess introducing "themselves".

I don't get it and I don't get "minimalist" people who say they're minimalists when they're still hoarding normal stuff. None of you are "minimalist". You just have less stuff than average. But you're not minimalist.

My boyfriend went on a hike and had a heavy backpack for the whole trip when he could have easily left stuff he "didn't need". "Oh I don't need this back pack but I'll bring it just in case". That's not minimalist, that's "prepared" and "privileged". That's when you call yourself "minimalist" and still have a bunch of stuff you "don't need" and you're just "prepared".
