India asks Google, Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter to remove fake content

The Indian government has asked social media companies and messaging apps to remove content that spreads misinformation about the COVID-19 virus and the 2021 Indian farmers’ protest.<br><br>“You have to take it down. It is against Indian laws,” Indian Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters after a meeting with Facebook, Google, Twitter, WhatsApp and TikTok executives.<br><br>The government has threatened to prosecute senior executives if their companies fail to comply with the order.<br><br>Last night, Twitter confirmed it suspended hundreds of accounts and removed fake content after receiving a legal request from the Indian government.
