There are a lot of asshole native speakers on this sub

I'm talking about the ones who constantly complain about their experiences with non-native speakers, whether they're tourists or immigrants. Also the ones who think that non-native speakers are somehow obligated to give them free opportunities to practice their language in return for theirs, giving orders about what language should be used where, and demanding that people immerse themselves in the target language even if they don't have the time or the privilege to. Also the ones who are against code-switching.

OP is a native English speaker who has learned other languages but I'm not going to bother specifying which language(s) they're referring to here because it's obvious that they're not the only racist asshole in this sub. Also, I've been lurking in this sub for a while and have collected a lot of their quotes.

- A European native speaker who's mad about English speakers in Latin America

>they think they can treat us as ignorant pieces of s**t

>How is it that I can speak good English if I’m from a poor country and I’ve had basically 0 English at school. Fuck this token white savior bulls**t, watch the way these dumbasses talk to the samoans and now they have a European who looks like them, suddenly they’re all smiles and their asshole faces lighten up. It’s embarrassing. I don’t think I’ve ever been talked down to like that before anywhere else, it’s so unreal.

- Another European native speaker who's mad about English speakers in the US

>Stop being a f\*\*\*\*ing dickhead. If you came from another European country, maybe your shitty accent has confused them. Or maybe you just look like a f\*\*\*\*ing arsehole. They talk like this to everyone. Not only tto you because you are a foreigner.

- An Asian native speaker who's mad about English speakers in the US

>Never in my life have I ever been talked down to like I was in the US. I was born and raised in a pretty wealthy city in Asia and I don’t think I’ve ever been talked to like that by a service worker, I was literally being scolded and judged for giving them chocolate as a gift. I’m Asian and I think they mistook me for being Latino or something but yeah. Americans are generally rude, their customer service is trash and it’s better to just ignore them and do the bare minimum to get through them.

- An American native English speaker who's mad at immigrants in the US

^(supporting OP's claim that native English speakers are not the only assholes in this sub)

>I was once at the park and these women came up to me and proceeded to talk to me in an accent that wasn’t English. They wanted me to go to church with them. I was polite and I told them that unfortunately I don’t speak their language and I can’t go to church with them. They got mad at me and started yelling at me in front of my child saying that I owed it to them to learn their language and that I was being racist. They called me a racist for not speaking their language!! It was honestly one of the most threatening and I was actually worried they were going to attack me. I called the police on them but they left before the police could show up. I was so fucking mad because I don’t owe it to anyone to learn their language and I’m not going to let anyone call me a racist for being born in my own country and speaking my own language. I get that there’s a lot of racism in the world towards immigrants but I’ve worked with tons of immigrants in the medical field and I always tried to be nice and I took the time to learn a bit of their language so that I can communicate with them better. I’m a medical professional, it’s literally part of my job to learn to communicate with people who don’t speak English. I think that immigrants should be more respectful of people’s boundaries and the countries that they’re in and I don’t think that it’s right for someone to demand that you learn their language.
