Today I came across this pic of Miley Cyrus in US Weekly magazine, and she was talking about minimalism and I noticed how stylish she looked compared to the slovenly messes I see on tiktok even from the wealthy zoomers.

As a result of this tiktok flood of people going for clutter, mess, and overconsumption, I’m seeing more and more traditional media outlets coming out to attack the idea of minimalism. I’m seeing a lot of “minimalism is over” articles even from places like CNN. This feels like a coordinated effort to discredit the idea of living a minimalist lifestyle.

I’ve always done what I wanted and never cared what the mainstream thought of my habits, but I find this recent trend to be very interesting. It makes me feel like I was ahead of its time. I got very into minimalism back in the 2010s but then was ostracized for it by many even from my own family. Now it seems like it’s a bit of a dirty word.

Today I saw a few videos of zoomers buying up their entire wardrobes from fast fashion, buying enormous houses and then decorating them with clutter, knocking down walls to build enormous walk in closets and the vibes are just sad. I don’t want to judge people or tell them how to live, but I see all these poor zoomers living these spoiled lives and it just brings me down. I feel like they don’t have any direction and are getting ruined by influencers and celebrities making overconsumption cool.

I think it’s very interesting to see all the backlash from traditional media and the mainstream on the idea of minimalism. It really does make me feel like it was the right choice for me.
