The Levant was a major battleground for the Roman Empire and the Persian Empire, it was the first stop on the Silk Road, it has been an important trade center through most of history, and it was the birthsite of the Semetic peoples and their languages. It is the holiest site in all of Christianity. The Levant was once a Roman province spanning all Levantine countries. The Levant was a major battleground in the Roman-Persian Wars as I said earlier, the most prominent battles were fought in the Levant.
