I think we should allow the extremely wealthy to pay their children’s way into college, but at a rate that should encourage them to get better K-12 schools.

My idea is to allow people to bribe their kids into college, but at a greatly inflated rate than what people did with bribes in real life.

For example, if it costs $10,000 a year to attend a university, the rate for a parent to buy their kid’s way in would be something like another $90,000 a year.

So a 4 year college would be an additional $360,000.

Or you could get much, much better K-12 schools so your kid can get in the normal way.

I think this would have two outcomes.

First, a lot of wealthy parents would shell out the cash because “their kid is worth it.” This would disproportionately affect the rich, who would then pay more in taxes which could be used to improve K-12 education in poor areas.

Second, a large number of extremely wealthy parents would spend money on improving the public schools in the district where they live because it would still be cheaper in the long run.

It would be great to end the corrupt bribing of college admissions, because the system is currently so utterly corrupt beyond repair that I think the simplest solution is to just legalise it and tax it.

This doesn’t actually solve the issue of the elite being corrupt, but it is a self-funded solution to a lot of the issues with K-12 education in poorer areas.
