My 8 year old nephew told me that he doesn't love me anymore because I wouldn't buy him meatballs when he visited.

I love my nephew more than anything. He's a great kid but he's also super spoiled. His parents give in to his demands and rarely say no to him. He spent the night at my house last night and wanted meatballs, but I told him I was making chicken and potatoes which is one of his other favorite meals.

He told me "I don't even love you anymore, I wanted meatballs! And I don't want to be here anymore. I don't even want to be your nephew anymore, I don't even like you! You suck."

I was shocked and I told him "That really hurts. You don't love me anymore? You can sleep on the couch tonight if you don't want to be under my roof"

He started crying and saying he was sorry and he still loved me, but that he was really upset that I didn't buy him meatballs. I told him I was upset that he said those things to me and that he was so spoiled and unappreciative of anything that anyone ever does for him.

I left him alone in the living room for a while and I think it really taught him a lesson. Later, he came up to me and hugged me and said he was really sorry and that he loved me more than anyone. But how do I make sure he doesn't go back to treating me or other people like that?
