When we just started dating, my wife had a good job in her field making good money. 2 years after that she quit her job to work at a start up that paid her half the money to be an administrative assistant. I was unfortunately right, the company went out of business 6 months later. She was out of work for 3.5 years. We had to use our savings to get by. She now works at a call center for a large company. I work 60 hour weeks and make good money but cannot keep up with our spending. I feel like I’m alone in this. Any other men out there have this problem? How did you resolve it? My wife is nice and caring and has been a great partner otherwise but this is so frustrating.

Edit:
I apologize for not responding to any comments yet but I got this post removed from /offmychest/ because someone thought it was inappropriate to vent and so I didn’t want to risk this one getting deleted. I will respond to some comments once I get home from work later today.
I’ll also update with a little more info first: we had around 15k saved up and spent all of it last year on living expenses. My wife’s job pays her 15 an hour I make around 60/hr.
I’ll also update with a response to some of the comments.

Edit 2: I think there may have been a few different subjects being confused. One was our savings, I said we are living paycheck to paycheck meaning we don’t have money to cover 3-6 months of expenses in case of an emergency, not that we are literally starving and barely scraping by. We also aren’t in debt. When I said living expenses it just means our normal budget, groceries, eating out, gas, enteeatment etc.

This is probably my fault for not elaborating enough but I’m a highly educated engineer specialized in my field. My job has many benefits and I started my own company that does very well. I am not rotating 3 jobs and working 60 hrs/week at a labor job or anything like that. I’m not sure how much I can elaborate due to the nature of this account but I do my job from home for my company and have around 10 people that work for me. It used to be more lucrative and stressful, now I have a good amount of free time.

I said in a comment my budget is around 6k/month but I’ll try to break it down better. 2k of that is used on groceries. We don’t buy extremely expensive groceries, it’s mostly normal stuff. My budget is for 2 people, me and my wife, no kids. My wife buys groceries for her family too and her friends. There’s 6 people in her family. I’m not sure how much of the groceries she buys that are for her and how much is for her family. We also buy coffee and lunch every day. It’s just normal Starbucks coffee and normal sandwiches. We also eat out 2-3 times a week at normal restaurants. The rest is normal expenses.
I’ll also update with a response to some of the comments.

Edit 3: First I want to say thank you to all the support and helpful messages and comments, both on this post and through my inbox. I have thought a lot about this and have taken some time to write down all my thoughts. I cannot afford to quit my job because my wife and I live paycheck to paycheck, but I have decided to take time off work to get my head straight and think about my next moves. I have thought about this and my options and thought about my last 2 years. I am done. I am going to divorce my wife and move out. This last year has been a huge eye opener and I’ve realized the deep flaws in our marriage. I’m going to take the last year of my life that I’ve wasted and use it to better myself and get my life in order. I have a lot to learn and a lot to work towards but I’m feeling better than I have in a while. Thank you.
