Why do I receive so many texts messages from people who have the wrong number?

I receive at least 2-5 messages a week from people who are obviously texting the wrong number. Most are pretty clear in showing that I'm the wrong person since they are either group chats or the content of the messages are clearly not intended for me. It's so random.
