Wifes dad is addicted to drinking and beats my wife for no reason at all

I (M26) recently got married to my wife (F24) a month ago and she is not happy at all. My FIL has a habit of drinking heavily and when it comes to my wifes house, he goes at it again. My FIL beats my wife brutally for no reason. She walks around with lots of bruises just because of that. My wife can't even do her house work properly because of her injuries. She always asks me why did you marry me, why did you bring me here, why did you ruin my life. I am really heartbroken to see my wife like this. I will die for her. But my FIL is haunting her even after marriage. I never saw him being violent before marriage but now he just torments her so much that she has also started thinking about suicide. I have asked her to rest and not do anything for a while but she says I will have no peace till he is there. I am in a dilemma about what to do. I will die if anything happens to my wife. I want her to be safe. I have talked to my mother about this she keeps saying that FIL is going to die soon. I don't understand what she means. Does she want FIL to die so that wife can have peace??
