I never want to go back to the office

As someone in tech, I've been remote for a few years already. But I'm not sure I ever want to go back to the office. I live in a pretty expensive city and the only thing that keeps me here is I don't want to leave my friends behind.

Even if I moved to the middle of nowhere, I know I'd be forced to move again in another 5 years if my company decides to have everyone move.

I have a hard time believing I'm the only one who feels this way. I'd like to know if there are other companies where you can work remotely forever.

Also, I've heard of companies that have unlimited PTO but I don't really know how it works in practice. Can anyone explain? I don't want a policy where I'm forced to go on vacation and never come back.

Edit: Sorry everyone, didn't know this would get popular. Glad to know everyone is feeling the same. Yeah unlimited PTO is pretty much useless. It's great for a week long vacation, but for anything long term I know my manager would probably say no.

And yeah, I'm under no delusions that remote is the future. YouTube is already full of videos explaining why you need to return to the office (according to Americans).
